There are no war heroes, that’s just plain old bullshit. The perpetuation of this popular lie only assures the creation of future wars. If you really don’t want new wars, then stop decorating veterans, get rid of those preposterous statues, and stop making glamorizing documentaries about people killing people, all that hollywood nonsense.
Nobody needs to be honored. Maybe it’s ok to give a little kid a reward at certain times, but grown ups should know better. Any wise, sane man or woman cannot possibly feel proud about having killed people for the sake of some god or flag. In other contexts you get shot or electrocuted or thrown in jail for such actions, and if to you the value of life depends on context, you overlook the fact that it could be you or your kin on the “receiving” end, and then most likely context would not matter anymore. Hypocritical and short-sighted, that’s how most of us live our lives, controlled by dead language, rotten ideas, thoughts of the past.
Few people are aware of the fact that the meaning of life is not to be found in any book of law or science or any book of god. You need to look further and deeper than that.
In the end, all soldiers are victims of ignorance. Most of them are still children, on either side. It is insane to kill people you don’t know and on top of that to risk losing your own life or getting badly disfigured. No human being who is able to freely think and observe would take part in such a thing, whatever the cause or reason for the killing might be.
Furthermore, the powers that be, well-educated or not, it doesn’t matter, are also in that same state of mind. They are trapped in their own stupidity, like little children fighting for toys and attention. Their self-centered behavior reinforces their illusions, so barely none of them ever step out of this vicious circle. The same sort of patterns can be found anywhere in society. We are all unaware and uninformed to some degree.
Anyone who participates in war is an ignorant fool, blind to the fact that it only brings more misery, more conflict. Every other mindless killing and the subsequent feelings of hatred constantly add to the confusion and the acceptance of violence.
Divulging in revenge can never satisfy. Instant gratification of any desire never lasts, and we all know the truth of this, but we keep telling ourselves that the outcome of our current pursuits will be different.
Why don’t we step out of this pattern, out of this mess? Why don’t we detect the irrationality? Why can’t we stay aware of our actions and thoughts, aware of ourselves?
Instead of trying to understand the insanity outside, we should investigate our own insanity, our own disintegration, go to the roots of our confusion and weed them out. In fact, is there any substantial difference between the inner and outer conflicts?
As long as we remain confused, war is inevitable. Glorifying war is accepting war, perpetuating immaturity and childishness. We can choose to remain children, or we can choose to grow up. It is not even a matter of choice. If you are really aware of your problems, there will only be one way to go.
War is the victory of illusion, and as long as we stay part of it, we’re all victims and losers.
